As we struggle with high gas and energy prices and a floundering economy, our county is faced with two options: continue the failed policies of the Bush Administration that leave the middle class behind, or change the direction our county is headed by pursuing a comprehensive energy plan and rebuilding our economy to protect and create American jobs. I am working hard in Congress to enact the policies that the people of Northwest Indiana deserve. I believe there is no silver bullet for lowering gas prices, but that by raising fuel standards to get more miles per gallon, supporting research into renewable energy like wind and solar, and clamping down on speculators in the commodities market we can ease the pain at the pump.

I have always stood up for Northwest Indiana jobs and our steel industry. To stop outsourcing I wrote a bill that would deny all federal funding, including government contracts, to any company that outsources American jobs. To help our steel industry and steelworkers, I wrote a bill that would require the government to buy only American-made steel and am leading the fight against China’s unfair trade practices.
