U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky Seeks Re-Election to Indiana’s First Congressional District

Merrillville, Indiana – U.S. Representative Pete Visclosky (D-Merrillville) has filed papers to seek re-election to Indiana’s First Congressional District, which includes Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton and Benton Counties.

Visclosky plans to keep working to retain and attract good-paying jobs in Northwest Indiana, and will continue to fight against companies that outsource their jobs to other countries. As Chairman of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, Visclosky has worked to confront the high cost of energy by reducing our dependence on oil imported from the Middle-East, and as a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, he has pushed for a responsible redeployment of our troops from Iraq.

“From creating good-paying jobs in Northwest Indiana to stopping the misguided practice of shipping jobs overseas, I will continue to fight for economic opportunities that benefit the people I represent,” said Visclosky. “Given the serious issues we face, I also believe it is time for elected officials to put aside political differences and work together to address the energy crisis, to make healthcare more accessible and more affordable, and to redeploy our troops from Iraq in a responsible way.”

Visclosky is a member of the powerful Appropriations Committee, where now serves as Chairman of the Energy and Water Subcommittee. He is a senior Member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and sits on the Financial Services Appropriations Subcommittee. Visclosky is also the Chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus.

Visclosky earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Indiana University Northwest, a law degree from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master’s degree in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University. He is married to Joanne Royce, and he has two sons, John and Timothy.
